Tree Removal TRPA Permit Assistance

Tree removal can be a tricky affair. Be it for aesthetics, safety, health, or any other valid reason, tree removal should always be done by professionals who will take care of all the technical aspects behind it. You can find several tree removal services today. But not everyone can provide you and your surroundings with the best possible care.

Lake Tahoe and Tree Removal

The majestic Lake Tahoe attracts visitors from all over the world. The surrounding homeowners and their properties with trees capable of causing wildfire threat should be scientifically removed to create a ‘defensible space’. The term ‘defensible space’ refers to the area between a house and an oncoming wildfire where the vegetation has been managed to reduce the wildfire threat.

Tree removal should be employed for cutting down trees that pose threats to roofs, cars, people, power lines, etc. For tree removal at Lake Tahoe, a permit should be obtained from the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA).

Basics of TRPA Permit

Not all projects require a TRPA (Tahoe Regional Planning Agency) permit. But if you need a permit for relocating existing land coverage or for creating new ones, there are a lot of processes to be kept in mind.

TRPA tree removal permit guidelines have to be followed carefully. According to the TRPA, a permit is required for the removal of trees greater than 6 inches in diameter at breast height (DBH) if your house is along the Lake Tahoe shore. On the other hand, only the removal of trees greater than 14 inches DBH requires a TRPA permit if your house is not along the lakeshore.

The removal of dead trees that are not near your house, substantial trimming of trees that are away from your property, removing trees in sensitive areas, and creating defensible spaces, etc require the TRPA permit.

Steps to get a Tree Removal Permit

1. For a tree removal Lake Tahoe permit, submit an online application at https://www.trpa.org/
2. You will have to fill out a TRPA Tree Removal Application and mail it to the TRPA website.
3. This application must be submitted along with an application filing fee.
4. The next step is the assessment of the trees by a TRPA forester who will visit your property to issue a permit for the marked trees.

Even though the steps seem easy, there are a lot of complicated rules and regulations for classifying a tree as dead, deciding whether a tree removal needs a TRPA permit or not, etc.
